Last night at exactly 1:58am I woke up in some serious pain! It felt like my calf muscle was coiling into a hard ball. I immediately yelped, shot my leg straight up in the air and grabbed John. The poor guy, what a terrible way to wake up. He was surprisingly with it and knew exactly what was happening (well, once he confirmed that I wasn’t having a heart attack). We’ve been waiting for the calf spasms.
I read a while ago that a lot of pregnant women begin to experience leg cramps in their second and third trimesters. Up until last night I had only experienced a little cramping, nothing like the full on spasm that hit me in the wee hours of the morning. I’m thinking the walk I went on yesterday after work probably set things in motion. It was such a beautiful day, I wanted to get out in the sun and fresh air so I went for a big long walk, but I didn’t stretch afterwards and I probably should have. Yoga is going to feel good tonight.
The one good thing about a tender calf is that it “forced” me to wear my new flat Michael Kors boots. I love my new boots! Any stylist would probably tell you my legs are too short for riding boots like this, but I don’t care! Aren’t they fun?!

When you get these stand up and walk around a bit. I get them every once in a while and I am not preggo. They suck! I hate how you feel like you strained a something the next day. BOO LEG CRAMPS!

ReplyDeleteHey Josie! I love your blog! Put a plain bar of soap under the sheet in your bed, I know this sounds weird but it helps with leg cramps! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey Josie... eating banana's will help with those leg cramps. It's not as weird as a bar of soap. lol. Banana's are GREAT for you while pregnant. Eat them alot. they will help with all sorts of things. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLol...i remember the first one I got too...My doctor suggested to get more calcium...i was already having quite a bit, but added a Tums before bed each night....and haven't had one since! well not one of the intense ones ;)
ReplyDeleteI had horrible leg cramps while pregnant and I was told to drink a glass of tonic water(I added a slice of lemon and lime) everynight before bed. I did it and they stopped! Just like magic.......good luck!
ReplyDeleteI had the leg pains as well. Take Tums for extra calcium..plus when the heart burn kicks in you will need Tums as well. Tums will be your new best friend :)
ReplyDeleteAh the spasms, I am sooo sorry that you are getting them, not everyone does.. Mine were really bad I remember I wanted to cut my leg off it was soooo bad.. But husbands are great to help with that.. It is normal but you are probably going to get them more now.. GREAT BOOTS!!!
ReplyDeleteI can only tell you this...fallow what you think is right what your gutt tells you. Many people will give you advice (soap under sheets) and yes some do help (water with lemon) but if you think something is not right or you are confortable with it stick with it and specially do the same when baby will arrive!!!! Love those boots!!!!!!
ReplyDeletei had alot of leg cramps when i was pregnant. i would also wake up in the middle of the night my dr told me to take extra calcium this will help. i ended up going thru 8 bottles of tums for my son as i always had heart burn and cramps in my legs.
ReplyDeleteLuckily, I only experienced cramps in my legs until almost the end of my pregnancy and I would wake up several times a night in pain because I slept on one side for too long.
ReplyDelete29 weeks and first instense spasm? Count yourself lucky! Not much you can do to prevent them. I would get them often when waking up in the morning and stretching. Mind you, when my doctor put me on bed rest, he assured they wouldn't happen as often. *Knock on wood* I haven't had one since. Good luck!
ReplyDeletehey, if you keep getting your leg spams, stay in bed relax, stretch your leg.... put your leg straight, then stretch your foot towards u, not away from u, works great the pain is gone within seconds, i had them the hole last trimester, i was walking alot and still working full time, and i guess it was to much.... great boots!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe thing with leg cramps is that you KNOW standing up and walking around will help...but you can't even MOVE. When I was pregnant mine were so bad I would just sit there and cry...they were so bad when I clenched my leg in pain, my muscle actually was protruding out of my leg...SO not fun...I hope this isn't something you have to deal with often!
