Fever Alert!

I started the process of weaning Evan off his night time feeds this past weekend. It was going well until last night when I went in to find my little guy burning up. He was so hot to the touch it startled me. I instantly went in and woke up John. He got the thermometer and we took his temperature. Luckily he wasn’t in any kind of danger zone as far as his temperature went, but I was still upset. Yes, I was upset, never mind Evan, let’s talk about how his fever made me feel. The fever has now gone down, and for the most part he’s okay. A little more fussy than normal, oh, and he’s pooped three times in the last 24 hours so I’m assuming he’s about to cut his first tooth. This is exciting, but also nerve-racking. I wonder what kind of night we’re in store for tonight.

  1. I remember when my son was cutting his first tooth. He would scream bloody murder. We consulted our family doctor and he told us about an organic product like Ambysol but safe for babies. Unfortunately, I don't remember the name of it but I know it is out there. Just rub it on the gum where the tooth is coming in. It settled my son right down.

Baby Tylenol and or Motrin will help with his fever but I am not sure how you feel about give Even medication.

  2. No one likes to see their helpless baby go through pain... I guess cutting a tooth is quite painful since they have never had to deal with it before. My husband and I don't like to take meds and aren't the type of parents to use meds at the first sign of illnes but by mother-in-law is an OB nurse and she told me that to battle a fever you should alternate between Tylenol (or Tempra) and Advil. My daughter just cut her first tooth yesterday and she is 7 months. And the night before she cut it she was "fit to be tied" but every baby is different. I tried altering the two and she found some relief, and I got some much needed sleep. I hope that you all get some sleep tonight and little Evan is recovering well.

  4. My daughter (6 1/2 months) sprouted two teeth over the course of a week - was not a happy girl that's for sure. We gave her Camilia and it really does the trick for the pain relief. Camilia is a natural/organic, taste free dose that is found only at Loblaws, Indendent, Real Canadian Superstore (in the organic aisle) and health food stores. Good luck!
