Child Care

I was supposed to head back to work next week! However, I decided to take more time. It just feels too soon. I’m so happy I made the choice to extend my time at home and I’m so fortunate that I work for a company that values family and understands that its employees need to put family first.

That being said I am looking for a nanny for when I do go back into the office in January. So far I haven’t had much luck. John and I decided to go with a nanny instead of daycare simply because we feel Evan is still so young and doesn’t have a set schedule yet so we would prefer for him to stay in the comfort of his own home.

I have to admit I’m getting a little nervous that I’m not going to find someone in time. If any of you have any suggestions for me on how to find a good nanny I would really appreciate it.

  1. A cousin of mine had a lot of success with finding a nanny that was a stay-at-home mom with a child that was a similar age. The mom would come over with her child, and the babies would interact and it worked really well for her. Of course, the occasional time they would be at the Nanny's home too. I find a lot of mothers are now doing this as an option to make an income while staying at home.

  2. If you go on facebook, there are a couple of groups Stittsville Moms or Kanata Moms. Join the groups and you will be amazed of how much information other moms post. I recall there was a nanny looking for a Job in January. Good Luck.

  3. As a teacher, I obviously get to know my students and their parents well. Through my classes I know of many home daycares run by fantastic women (as well as a few nannys) and trust them as their children have turned out so fantastic. My advice: do you have any friends or contacts in education? Put the bug in their ear. (I'm in the West end and could offer suggestions if you'd like). Good luck!
